GCC Market Sizing Data
Population, household, and economic anchor numbers for Dubai-based case interviews — with source tiers and footnotes on every unverified figure.
How to Read This Page
Every number carries a confidence tier · red footnote markers = not fully verified
Source tiers
TIER 1 Official national statistics bodies — GASTAT (Saudi), FCSC (UAE), DSC (Dubai), SCAD (Abu Dhabi), PACI/CSB (Kuwait), NPC (Qatar), NCSI (Oman). Gold standard.

TIER 2 Credible media reporting official data — Gulf News, Saudi Gazette, Muscat Daily, KUNA, Al Jazeera.

TIER 3 Estimates, not official. Red superscript markers [n] link to footnotes explaining exactly what could not be verified.
The single biggest caveat on this page
The UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Qatar do not publish official nationality-wise breakdowns of their expat populations. All "expats by origin country" figures for those three countries are third-party estimates (largely Global Media Insight, via Al Jazeera's March 2026 GCC explainer). Kuwait is the exception — its PACI officially publishes nationality data. Fine to use in interviews; know what they are.

Sanity check run on these figures
Top-10 origins sum to ~30.3M of ~35M total expats (87%) — internally consistent. Structural facts to cite in cases: working-age share is 75–84% across GCC (vs ~65% globally); populations are 60–75% male; the 65+ segment is ~3% — effectively no senior consumer market except among nationals.

Why the 3.3x gap matters
"35M consumers" is a fiction. Saudi is ~20M nationals with Western-Europe-level household incomes plus ~16M expats earning a fraction of that — and remitting heavily: workers' remittances hit SAR 217.4B in 2025 (+26.9%), ≈ $58B leaving the consumer economy annually. Segment first, then size.

Labor force = 9.4M (2024, FCSC); employed = 9.2M; unemployment 1.9%. Calc: 9.4 ÷ 11.3 = ~83% of all residents are in the workforce (a normal country is ~50%). Corollary: children and seniors are structurally scarce — any kids/seniors product has a far smaller base than raw population suggests.

Emiratis (~1.3M, ~12%): highest income, government-employment-heavy, larger households.

Dubai data flag — two official series coexist
Dubai's official Population Bulletin puts end-2024 at 4,248,200 (2022–24 series revised using the "Dubai Population Now 2025" methodology). But DSC's public Population Clock reported crossing 4M (4,006,656) on 8 Sep 2025 — the pre-revision series. Both are official DSC; they cannot be fully reconciled. Consumer Sizing Playbooks — Saudi & UAE
Worked segmentation logic using only the verified numbers above
  • 1
    Start with households: 8.2M total → segment into ~4.2M Saudi + ~4.0M non-Saudi.
  • 2
Target the premium family segment: Saudi households ($58K/yr income) + a high-income expat slice (state assumption aloud, e.g. top ~15% of expat households ≈ 0.6M) ≈ 4.8M households.
  • 3
Apply urban concentration: × 68% in the big-3 regions ≈ 3.3M addressable households.
  • 4
Then penetration × spend. A defensible base in 3 steps, each tied to a census number.
  • 1
Strip the collective-household labor population: 4.2M people → ~770K family households (~3.1M people).
  • 2
Split by nationality: ~300K Emirati citizens ÷ ~5 per household ≈ 60K Emirati households; expat family households ≈ 710K.
  • 3
Premium slice (flag the assumption): e.g. top ~40% of expat family households ≈ 280K + most Emirati households ≈ 340K target households.
  • 4
Then penetration × price. Every step traces to a DSC number except the premium-share assumption — which is exactly the one to flag to your interviewer.
UAE income data gap — be upfront in interviews
No official published UAE-wide household income figures were found.[12] Dubai completed its Household Income & Expenditure Survey 2024, but results do not appear to be public yet. If a case needs UAE income segmentation, say so explicitly and triangulate from GDP per capita (~$49K) instead.

1
UAE nationals vs expats split. The FCSC publishes the total population but no official nationals/expats breakdown. The ~12% Emirati / ~88% expat split (~1.3M / ~10M) is a consensus estimate widely reported (incl. Al Jazeera, Mar 2026) but is not an official statistic.
2
Kuwait total population. Kuwait's two official bodies disagree by ~220K: PACI registry shows 5.10M (Jun 2025) while the Central Statistical Bureau estimates 4.88M (start-2025). Both are official; the gap reflects registry-vs-estimate methodology and is unresolved. The national/expat ratio (~30/70) is consistent across both.
3
Qatar nationals vs expats split. The NPC publishes only the total. The ~330K Qatari / ~2.87M expat split (~12%/88%) is a consensus estimate; Qatar does not officially publish a complete nationality breakdown.
4
Bahrain — all current figures. No single authoritative post-2020 official figure was found. The 2020 census recorded ~1.50M; current estimates range from 1.58M (Al Jazeera, Mar 2026) to ~1.64M (UN World Population Prospects). The ~47/53 national/expat split derives from the 2020 census and secondary estimates.
5
All expat-by-origin figures for UAE, Saudi, Qatar, Bahrain, and the GCC-wide table. These originate largely from Global Media Insight (a Dubai digital marketing agency), embassy estimates, and media compilations — Al Jazeera's March 2026 explainer explicitly credits GMI. No official source publishes them. Kuwait (PACI) and Oman (NCSI) are the exceptions with official nationality tracking.
6
Saudi ~37M (2025/26). Media/GMI estimates ahead of GASTAT's next official release. The verified official figure remains 35.3M (mid-2024). Directionally consistent with GASTAT's reported 4.7% growth rate.
7
UAE three-tier consumer structure. The existence of the tiers is directly visible in official data (gender ratios, collective-household exclusions, labor statistics), but the numerical boundaries between tiers (3–4M professional / 4–5M blue-collar) are estimates, not published statistics.
8
Dubai population — two official series. The DSC Population Bulletin (revised via "Dubai Population Now 2025") gives 4,248,200 at end-2024, while the DSC Population Clock reported crossing 4,006,656 in Sep 2025 on the pre-revision series. Both are official DSC outputs; the inconsistency could not be reconciled from public sources.
9
Dubai daytime population. The DSC Bulletin gives 5,937,800 (peak-hour active, incl. commuters, tourists, sailors); an Emirates 24|7 report citing DSC gives 5.13M for "peak-time." Different measures or vintages; unreconciled. The bulletin figure is used here as the primary source.
10
Dubai citizen/non-citizen counts. The 299,600 / 3,564,000 split sums to ~3.86M — matching the pre-revision series, not the revised 4.25M total. The ~7–8% Emirati share is robust either way; the absolute expat count under the revised series would be higher.
11
Qatar GDP per capita. Swings ±10%+ by denominator: using NPC's 3.21M gives ≈$68K; the World Bank's own population series (~2.86M) gives ≈$77K. All per-capita figures on this page are nominal, not PPP — PPP figures run substantially higher for Qatar, Kuwait, and Saudi.
12
UAE household income and UAE-wide household count. Not found in any official publication. Dubai's Household Income & Expenditure Survey 2024 was completed (announced by Dubai Data & Statistics Establishment) but results do not appear to be published. The UAE-wide family-household estimate of ~2.0–2.3M is an extrapolation from Dubai's official 771K count, not an official statistic.
